Hi everyone!

Today I am wearing one of my favorite summer dresses. The black and white is a fresh take on a palm print and makes the look a little bit more neutral. One of the reasons I bought this in the first place was because I needed a dress that would be work-appropriate when paired with a cardigan. There is no worse feeling than constantly tugging at the hem of your dress all day or feeling self conscious when attempting to sit comfortably. Don’t be afraid of length! It is a very good and tasteful thing.

I paired this dress with my Birkenstock sandals I wrote about in a previous post. Now that I have worn them in, I can’t think of a more comfortable sandal. I am so excited that Birkenstocks are everywhere again, because I am already trying to decide my next color. I am also carrying a macramé tote from anthropologie. It is roomy enough to hold all the junk essentials I carry with me, but not overly large. I have a feeling it will be my go-to during my upcoming vacation. (I’m counting down the minutes.)

I hope you all are having a wonderful summer. I love that it is a chance to take a break, recharge and try something new. For the last ten weeks, I have been living and interning in a completely new city and trying to take full advantage of everything here. We are about a month away from school (even less for some), so be sure to enjoy each day!

Summertime Hair Mask

Posted on by

Coconut oil is one of the best natural conditioners for skin and hair because it is full of antioxidants and fatty acids. Virgin coconut oil is derived from the milk of fresh coconut meat. Little to no heat is used in the extraction process, which allows the oil to smell and taste the best. I began using it a few years ago as a skin moisturizer after showers and found that it also works well on my lips, cuticles and hair.

Last Sunday, I applied a coconut oil mask to my hair, and I am so happy with the results. My hair was beginning to feel really dry, and this brought it back to life! This oil hair mask is super simple to do at home.

What you will need:

2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil

1 tablespoon of honey (optional)

wide tooth comb

plastic shower cap

hair dryer

You will want to begin with towel-dried hair. It will be easiest to comb the oil through it. Coconut oil is a solid at room temperature, so you will need to heat it, either by placing the glass jar in hot water or scooping some oil into a sauce pan on the stove. (Do not use the microwave!) When the oil has liquefied, begin working it through your hair with your hands. As the majority of your hair is covered, comb the rest of the oil through to completely cover your locks. I kept the oil about an inch away from my roots, but do not worry if it reaches your scalp. The oil is actually great for dry scalps and can help dandruff too!

Next, twist your hair up into the shower cap and apply heat. The heat opens up the hair follicles so that the oil can penetrate each strand and lock in moisture.  I sunbathed with the mask in my hair, so I opted out of the hair dryer and let the sun heat my hair. Keep the mask in for at least one hour. Shampoo and condition as normal.

The more you use the coconut oil mask, the healthier and shinier your hair will become. It also helps reduce protein loss in hair, enabling better and stronger growth. Try it once or twice a month for best results.

Let me know how the hair mask works for you!!
