Keeping my Blonde Hair, Blonde

If you have light-colored hair (especially if chemically treated), it is likely you have to deal with a little bit more upkeep than your brunette friends. Overtime, pale blonde hair tends to get brassy due to the elements and fading color. Additionally, pool water isn’t always a blonde’s best friend.

In order to keep your blonde light and bright, you’ll need to tone it in between salon visits. There are several ways you can do this, but I like to use toning products in the shower. I typically use a toning shampoo or BLNDN’s toning rinse once a week (using toning products every time you wash your hair can be drying to your strands). Blonde toning products are bright purple to cancel out the unwanted yellowy orange hues and bring your hair to the brighter desired shade of blonde.

When using a purple shampoo, I make sure to lather really well all throughout my hair and then let it sit for a minute or two to make sure each strand is scrubbed of the brassy color. When using BLNDN’s toning rinse, I use it between my regular shampoo and conditioner, again covering each strand and letting it sit for a few minutes. It is much stronger than toning shampoo, so be sure not to leave it on too long or else you’ll step out of the shower with a greyish tint to the lighter sections of hair. I speak from experience. 🙂
